Eczema is the name for a group of inflammatory skin conditions that cause dry skin, itchiness, rashes, scaly patches, blisters and skin infections. There are seven types of eczema that affect the skin. Anyone at any age can experience eczema, from newborn babies and teens to older adults. Some types of eczema are more common in certain age groups or in individuals who have allergies or asthma, and also who have a familily history of these conditions.
