Ischemic Heart Disease

Ischemic Heart Disease

Introduction

Ischemic heart disease (IHD), also known as coronary artery disease (CAD), is a serious condition that occurs when blood flow to the heart is reduced or blocked in the coronary arteries. If a coronary artery becomes completely blocked, the heart muscle cells die, which is termed a heart attack or myocardial infarction.
Acute myocardial infarction (IAM) is a clinical condition caused by complete cessation of blood flow to a portion of the muscle tissue of the heart (myocardium), leading to insufficient oxygen supply. Prolonged deprivation of oxygen supply to the myocardium can lead to myocardial cell death and necrosis.
Ischemia is commonly the sudden occlusion of one or multiple coronary arteries, or if blood flow cannot keep up with increased oxygen demand during exercise or stress.cio o el estrés.
